1969 Triumph Bonneville
A completely rebuilt engine - every bearing and seal; new Black Diamond valves, RD valve springs, bronze valve guides; +.020 10:1 pistons in a fresh bore, Megacycle cams with refaced lifters, alloy push rods, mushroom-face rocker adjusters; rebalanced crank assembly (spin-balanced by a pro race shop, not just static balanced like most bike shops) ; new oil pump; big Mikuni carbs w. new K&N filters; a custom hydraulic clutch set-up; new Barnett clutch plates; new high-output 3-wire alternator w. Tympanium regulator and a new extra small fully sealed battery; Boyer Digital Ignition (the better, more expensive one); Webco finned oil manifold & points cover.
Honda alloy Comstar wheels w. New Dunlop 591 tires; Honda forks w. progressive-wound springs; drilled dual front discs and a single rear disc; Earl's braided steel brake lines & fittings; synthetic brake fluid; pressure switches for the brake light; custom-made 530 rear sprocket by Sprocket Specialists; new chain.
Polished aluminum "Tank Shop" gas tank w. new petcocks; polished aluminum oil tank w. Earl's AN (aircraft type) fittings & "Super Stock" hoses through out; polished aluminum fenders; polished aluminum battery box. Stainless steel bolts, washers and nyloc nuts used through out the entire bike. Frame is UNMODIFIED, except for a tab welded to the swingarm for the brake-stay arm. Hump-back seat (new) from Clubman Racing. New 1/4 fairing w. rare dark smoke shield. A Lockhart oil cooler (not connected until the piston rings are fully seated.)
New OEM wiring harness; new halogen headlight and tailight; a real liquid-filled oil pressure gauge in place of the ammeter in the new headlight shell, plus dual red oil idiot lights; green ignition-on and blue high beam indicator lights; mini tach & speedo units (new); new low Triumph bend handlebars; matching Yamaha master cylinders for the clutch and front brake, both w. dog-leg levers. Dual cable throttle (Barnett) and cables.
The only changes I might have made in the future are Goldstar mufflers from Clubman and maybe powder coat the wheels (red?). If I had found swept back pipes that didn't require rear-sets, I might have gone to those too. Now the negative: the right side pipe was yellowed (an incompletely drilled Mikuni pilot jet - which is now on my neighbor's roof.)

T140E Bonneville |

1979 T140E Bonneville Euro-Restoration , This is a complete frame up custom restoration of a 1979 T140E Bonneville European style . The work captures the true European look with the large euro tank 4.2 gallons , low handle bars with bar end mirrors , Fox seat that has a race look to it , front fork gaitors and handling package for a true cafe racer atmosphere . The organic candy green paint from House of Kolor has a unique appeal and is astonishing in the sun . The Ankront H beam rims , Buchannans Stainless Steel spokes , Dunlop K591 tires and Marzocchi shock absorbers make this a real road handler . New discs front & rear. The motor is also not a run of the mill unit either . 1060 cams , ported and polished head ports , nitrated stainless steel valves and Rowe bronze guides , coupled with a Dunstall style exhaust really bring out the horsepower . Accessories include a rear six-pak rack , small front motor case protectors and multi-position handle bar end mirrors . The silver powder coated frame stands out reminsicent of the chrome Cheney racing frames of the 60's and 70's . There is a nice touch of show chrome on this motorcycle that is not overbearing . The chain guard , motor mounts front fork trees and headlite support and driver footrests have been chrome plated for show and durability . Some of the just-for-fun stuff includes a twin chromed horn cleverly situated beneath the tank, a very British looking Bosch headlamp lens, custom made decals, frame matching gray spark plug wires and a silver plated seat release knob. |

If you like old Triumphs and you want to ride something different, you need to check this out. She’s an easy starter, runs great, is a blast to ride and always draws attention at the local bike nights. The previous owner’s garage burned down. The bike did not burn but was damaged from heat and smoke. I rebuilt it, 1,400 miles ago, as a bar hopper, taking it completely apart repainting, polishing or powdercoating everything.
It’s a rider not a poser and is not perfect. It’s an old Triumph so it’s not unusual to see an oil drip under it or oil mist somewhere after a nice ride.
The frame and 750cc motor are stock. It’s got a 5-speed tranny. The previous owner had gone through the motor before the fire. I had the cylinders honed and used new rings. I installed an additional top-end breather and added an oil filter from a Norton.
The front end is lowered 2”. The tank is a fiberglass flat tracker piece and the side panels are lightweight sheet aluminum. Rewired with points ignition, a mity max and no battery. Electronics are mounted on a custom plate that hangs from the original battery box mounts.
Quirks, the stock speedometer drive, 1:1, indicates one half the actual mph on the mini speedo. A readily available, 2:1 speedometer drive would fix that.
Here’s a partial list of the new parts used to build it
Gas tank and petcock
Barnett throttle, cables
Coils, Mity Max and points
Drive chain
Mini speedo and cable
Tires
Front master cylinder, brake lever assembly
Rear master cylinder
Stainless brake lines
Headlight and tailight
Steering head and front wheel bearings
Seat Cover
LED taillight
Lots of additional hoses, rubbers, gaskets, bushings, wires and hardware. |

Triumph Bonneville C |
1969 |

A recently completed 1969 Triumph from my collection: matching numbers and with just 10 miles on it! A built-up engine, aluminum parts replacing many major steel ones (to reduce the weight), more rigid forks with better dampening, much better brakes; stainless nuts & bolts through-out.
MOTOR: every bearing & seal replaced; new +.020 pistons in fresh bores; new MegaCycle cams with reground lifters; crank professionally rebalanced (spin, not static/stationary, like most rebuilders) w. a different balance percentage factor (to reduce high-end "buzz"), re-polished journals; Black Diamond valves in new bronze guides & RD valve springs in a fresh head; new big Mikuni carbs & new K&N filters; specially made hydraulic clutch; new high-output (3 wire) alternator, new Tympanium-type regulator; new Boyer Digital ignition (the more expensive / better one); all trans gears inspected & replaced as needed; new Barnett clutch plates; rebuilt clutch hub & rollers; new primary chain w. new tensioner assembly; fully cleaned and re-burnished cases; Webco finned alloy points cover & rocker box oil-feed. This motor was built for greater mid-range and top-end, and probably puts out about 20% more horsepower than stock. As an expected trade-off, some of the low-end torque was given up.
FRAME & RUNNING GEAR: unmodified frame mated to Honda forks & Comstar alloy wheels; rebuilt calipers on dual front discs, single rear, all w. new pads; Earl's braided steel brake lines & fittings w. synthetic brake fluid; new Dunlop tires; new sprockets & chain. Only the swingarm has been modified w. a welded-on boss for the rear brake torque-arm. Drilled engine mounting plates.
OIL SYSTEM: new high output pump; polished alloy dirt track-style oil tank in rubber mounts; Earl's AN fittings & their "Super Stock" high pressure hose; remote Lockhart oil cooler (not yet connected, waiting until next oil change - 1st @ 4 miles, next planned for 50-75 miles. All fittings in-place now.); special vents from rocker box, crankcase & primary case.
BODY WORK: rare polished 4.5 gal. "Tank Shop of England" alloy tank; new hump-back seat from Clubman Racing (hinged like stock); new alloy front & rear fenders; low Triumph-bend bars w. vibration eliminators in each end; new, painted 1/4 fairing w. rare dark smoke shield; stainless bolts & nyloc nuts used where ever possible;
ELECTRICAL: halogen sealed beam & halogen taillight bulb; a real liquid-filled oil pressure gauge (in place of the amp gauge) in new headlight shell along w. dual red idiot lights; green ignition and blue high beam indicator lights; new illuminated mini tach & speedo; new mini battery in a polished alloy battery box; new wiring loom (re-pop). Converted from positive ground to negative ground with the late model high-output alternator.
EXHAUST: rechromed pipes (right pipe has yellowed because of an incompletely drilled primary jet, which now resides on my neighbor's roof); new Dunstall style mufflers; left side muffler mount is alloy and also holds the rear master cylinder.
CONTROLS: Yamaha clutch & brake master cylinders w. aftermarket dog-leg levers; Oury street grips; bar-ends; low Triumph bend bars; aftermarket mirrors which screw into each master cylinder; slightly modified OEM rear brake pedal to actuate the Honda rear master cylinder; new footpeg, shifter & kickstarter rubbers. New Barnett throttle cables & throttle.
